That’s exactly what the Family Life Center in Shelbyville offers — compassionate, practical support for women, men, and families experiencing pregnancy and parenting challenges. And they do it all free of charge, grounded in faith and guided by love.
A Ministry with a Mission
The Family Life Center is a Christian nonprofit ministry with a mission to empower and equip families through education, resources, and support. Though originally opened in Effingham in 1995, the Shelbyville location has been serving the community even longer — and was officially transitioned to their care in January 2023 to bring management under a more local, connected ministry.
From the beginning, their inspiration has been simple: to walk alongside people through the joys and trials of parenthood, with practical help and spiritual encouragement.
What They Offer
The Family Life Center isn’t just a resource — it’s a lifeline. And everything they offer is completely free and confidential.
Here’s just a glimpse of the services available:
- Prenatal, post-birth, and parenting education
- Limited obstetrical ultrasounds (performed by a certified nurse)
- Breastfeeding classes
- STI/STD testing and treatment
- Silk Purse Client Cash, redeemable at their affiliated resale boutique
- Free diapers, wipes, baby items, and car seats

So far this year, the Shelbyville center has served around 50 individuals and families this year, and they have the capacity to support many more. Every class, ultrasound, and donated item makes a tangible impact.
