Member of the Month: Shelby County State Bank

Celebrating 130 Years of Community Banking Excellence

This May, we are thrilled to feature Shelby County State Bank (SCSB) as our Member of the Month — just in time to honor a truly incredible milestone. On May 11, SCSB will officially celebrate 130 years of dedicated service to Shelby County. That’s over a century of growing with our communities, supporting local families, and helping businesses of all sizes thrive.

A Legacy That Began in 1895

Established in 1895, Shelby County State Bank first opened its doors on East Main Street in Shelbyville. Even after a devastating fire in 1916, the bank rebuilt stronger — a theme that’s carried through every chapter of its long history. With expansions into Windsor, Strasburg, Findlay, and Moweaqua, SCSB has consistently proven its commitment to local access, personalized service, and strong community partnerships.

More Than a Bank — A Neighbor

At its core, Shelby County State Bank is more than a place to open an account or take out a loan. It’s a bank where loan decisions are made locally, by people who know your name and understand your goals. Their employees aren’t just bankers — they’re your neighbors, coaches, volunteers, and community champions.

SCSB offers a wide range of services, including:

  • Personal, commercial, and agricultural loans
  • Checking and savings accounts
  • Safe deposit boxes
  • Farm management and trust services
  • Online and mobile banking
  • Mobile deposit, e-statements, and deposit-ready ATMs

These conveniences make it easy to bank securely and efficiently, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing your institution is rooted right here at home.

Giving Back, Year After Year

Shelby County State Bank has long believed that the success of the bank is intertwined with the success of the communities it serves. That belief shows in their actions. From supporting school programs and FFA chapters to sponsoring community events and youth initiatives, SCSB is a consistent and generous contributor.

Some of their recent and notable efforts in Shelbyville include support for:

  • The Roxy Theatre
  • The new city pool project
  • The Shelby County 4-H Fair
  • The 4-H Bank Steer Program

A Team That Puts People First

When asked about the most rewarding part of their work, the team didn’t hesitate:

“You aren’t just serving customers — you’re serving friends, neighbors, and familiar faces.”

It’s this personal approach — paired with a proud legacy and a forward-thinking mindset — that continues to make Shelby County State Bank a cornerstone of our community.
